Interesting Information About Pontiac
Pontiac Industry -- Pontiac was first settled in 1818 where the Saginaw Indian Trail (now Woodward/Dixie Highway) crossed the Clinton River. It was a convenient spot then and, now located close to Detroit, Flint and Ann Arbor, it still is. Pontiac's main employer is the automotive industry in which about 21,000 are employed. Far behind are the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the County of Oakland. Most noted is the city's history with General Motors. It is the birthplace of General Motor's Truck and Bus and Pontiac Motor Divisions. With downtown improvements, there is an ever-expanding downtown business base. Other important industries for employment are accommodation and food service, construction, and educational services.
Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats Festival -- Arts, Beats & Eats is held every Labor Day weekend and attracts over one million visitors to the city to enjoy music from national recording artists, art exhibits from nationally renowned artists and food from the area's finest restaurants. Another festivity of note is the Woodward Dream Cruise, in with 500,000 people are attracted to the city to look at classic cars and displays.
