Interesting Information About Dexter
Dexter History -- Both the Village and Township of Dexter were named after the Honorable Samuel W. Dexter, who purchased land that originated the village. The area was first settled in 1824 and was known as the "Mill Creek Settlement." The name changed to Dexter in 1830 when the village was platted. The Village of Dexter is said to have been planned so that the sun could shine on both sides of each street all day. Judge Dexter's home, called Gordon Hall, still exists as a museum.
Parks in Dexter -- Dexter is full of nice parks for relaxation and recreation. The Monument Park hold many events, a famous gazebo and shade trees among other things. The Community Park has pavilions for rent, a walking path, playsets and much more. The Warrior Creek Park has a place for fishing an a beautiful view of Mill Creek. Peace Park is a place for relaxation with benches and gardens. Other parks are Lions Park, First Street Park and Smith Woods.
