Upper Peninsula Michigan's Upper Peninsula has been on a steady growth pattern. The business industry is growing the technology enhancements are vastly improving the economic climate. With schools such as Michigan Technological University in Houghton graduating students in such fields as engineering, computing, arts an Humanities and Social Sciences, more professionals are joining the workforce and new businesses are choosing to locate in this area that is well-known for its forests, wildlife and other outdoors activities. Mining has always been a prominent industry in the Upper Peninsula as it is very rich in iron, copper, nickel and silver. Logging and forestry are other dominant industries, but tourism is the most important with several places for camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and hiking.

Northern Michigan's Destinations
Michigan's Upper Peninsula has diverse recreational opportunities for all four seasons. The region has much for the outdoors person, but also has attractions such as museums, events and unique restaurants.There are thousands of miles of biking, hiking and horseback riding trails, such as the Copper Country Loop in Ahmeek and the Hiawatha National Forest in Sault Ste. Marie. Popular ski destinations include the Indianhead Mountain Resort in Wakefield, Mt. Zion in Ironwood, and the National Ski Hill of Fame in Ishpeming, which is the birthplace of the National ski association. The U.S. Olympic Education Center allows athletes to earn their highschool diplomas or college degree while they build their skills.

Tour Colonial Michilimackinac Historic State Park, a complete working colonial village. Cruise Copper Harbor Lighthouse and Tours - A narrated cruise through Copper Harbor's once bustling port takes you to one of Michigan's oldest lighthouses.
